On Saturday, a significant earthquake struck Afghanistan, killing more than 300 people and injuring many more. A video from the tragic incident that showed a guy protecting fourteen of his family members who were trapped under the debris has surfaced online and touched viewers' hearts.
The Afghan man was
seen wailing inconsolably and pleading with God over the frightening condition
of his loved ones. Due to the natural calamity, his home in Herat, Afghanistan
was reduced to stones and dust. The man can be seen in the footage going over
the remains of the demolished structure while sobbing uncontrollably.
2,000 dead from Afghanistan earthquake, according to Taliban

As the death toll from the
earthquake in Afghanistan approaches 2,000, a child in the Herat province is
rescued from beneath the rubble.
One of the deadliest
earthquakes to strike the nation in the past 20 years has left over 2,000
people dead in western Afghanistan, according to a top Taliban leader, who also
warned that the death toll could continue to grow.
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck Herat province left many people missing and rescue efforts were underway.
Made an appeal to local
businesspeople and NGOs to step forward and provide aid to those in need,
noting the immediate need for tents, medical supplies, and food in the
disaster-affected areas.
In Herat on Sunday,
individuals clambered over rocks and other debris in an effort to manually
extricate the dead and hurt. Their faces were covered in dust as they huddled
beneath collapsed structures as survivors and victims.
A baby girl is shown being
freed from a collapsed building after being buried up to her neck in debris in
one internet video. As the baby is brought out of the earth, a hand is seen
embracing its torso. They identified her as the baby's mother. It's unclear if
the mother survived.
Immediate assistance,
stating that hundreds of residents have been buried under the rubble and that
about six villages have been destroyed.
According to the US
Geological Survey (USGS), the 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at
approximately 11am on Saturday (06:30 GMT) 40km (24 miles) northwest of the
city of Herat.
Rescue efforts are
At least a dozen teams, including those from the military and nonprofits like the Red Crescent, have been mobilized to assist with rescue operations.
Four ambulances with doctors
and counselors for psychosocial assistance have been sent by the UN agency for
migration to the local hospital. The Zenda Jan district, one of the hardest
impacted districts, is receiving at least three mobile health teams. The Afghan
branch of the World Health Organization reported sending 12 ambulances to Zenden
Jan to transport injured individuals to hospitals.
The Cricket World Cup player
from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, announced that he will donate all of his
winnings to aid the earthquake victims in Herat.
He addressed his 1.9 million
followers on X, formerly Twitter, "Soon, we will be launching a
fundraising campaign to call upon those who can support the people in
need."
A strong earthquake that
rocked a rough, mountainous area of eastern Afghanistan in June 2022 destroyed
dwellings made of mud and stone. With at least 1,000 fatalities and
approximately 1,500 injuries, it was the deadliest earthquake to strike
Afghanistan in 20 years.
